Name of art: Painted and engraved horse

The white, fluffy looking growth as seen mainly on the left side of the painting is due to the fungus Fusarium solani. Fol. candida are known to feed on this fungus so they might also be present in this area.

Location: The Nave

Name of art: The horses

The olive-black colored stains in the center of the art are likely to be caused by Scolecobasidium tshawytschae. This fungus synthesizes a characteristic melanin and could be responsible for the black stain formation and dissemination. Fol. candida and members of the family Campodeidae (Diplura) are known to feed on these black stains.

Location: The Chamber of the Felines

Name of art: Horse in frontal view

The olive-black colored stains on the left side are likely to be caused by Scolecobasidium tshawytschae. The darker colored area surrounding it (marked by the second arrow at the center) is probably due to the black fecal pellets produced by Fol. candida feeding on this fungus.
